Crazy Week 2026: A Postcard from Ten Metres Down Sets the Tone
Some stories begin with an email. Others start with a phone call, a booking confirmation or the familiar message: ‘We simply cannot wait to be back in Dahab.’
Crazy Week 2026 has chosen a rather different opening.
It begins with a postcard that had to travel ten metres down before it could begin its journey to Lagona Divers.
Our Crazy Week regulars and participants sent us a surprise that tells you almost everything you need to know about the people joining this event. Ordinary post was clearly too easy. A quick message would not have involved nearly enough planning. And a standard postcard from the last dive site would have been far too inconspicuous for this particular group.
So they posted it in a real letterbox underwater.
Not metaphorically. Not as a story invented after three post-dive beers. They genuinely took it underwater and posted it.
Central Germany’s deepest letterbox sits at a depth of roughly ten metres, waiting for someone to feed it a piece of genuine deep-water mail. That is exactly where the message to Lagona Divers was posted. The card then returned to the surface, entered the normal postal system and eventually arrived at our Service Centre.
It is worth pausing over that for a moment: this postcard went diving before it was delivered.
Which, when you think about it, is a remarkably fitting way to launch Crazy Week 2026.
Deep-water mail instead of a quick message
The front of the card shows the underwater letterbox surrounded by the residents of its freshwater home. A curious pike, dense aquatic plants and a crayfish provide the scenery. The design carries the word ‘Tiefenpost’ — deep-water mail — together with a note explaining that this is Central Germany’s deepest letterbox, ten metres beneath the surface.
The postcard alone would already have been a brilliant idea.
But our Crazy Week participants would not be our Crazy Week participants if they had been satisfied with making the claim and leaving it at that. Someone might have suspected that the card had been written safely on dry land and slipped into the nearest ordinary postbox.
That would certainly have been efficient. Efficiency and Crazy Week, however, only meet occasionally.
So there is a video documenting the whole thing. It shows the postcard being taken to the underwater letterbox and pushed through the slot. The evidence is conclusive: this greeting has logged more bottom time than some newly certified Open Water Divers.
The whole stunt is charming, gloriously overcomplicated and excellent precisely because it was so unnecessary. It shows that these are people who see diving as far more than a sport. The shared experience matters, as does the story behind the dive — and, naturally, a carefully measured dose of good-natured madness.
This group appears to have brought plenty of that with them.
A group that always comes up with something
The reverse of the postcard makes it even more personal. It is covered with handwritten greetings and signatures addressed directly to Lagona Divers — proof that the anticipation for Crazy Week 2026 began long before anyone boarded a flight to Egypt.
You cannot order or schedule gestures like this. They happen when participants have long since become friends.
That is exactly what Crazy Week has achieved over the years.
Of course, Dahab is about superb diving. It is about the Red Sea, exceptional visibility, spectacular reefs, relaxed shore diving and sites where even regular visitors continue to discover something new. It is also about the Crazy Wreck, which the senders of the card are clearly looking forward to revisiting.
Without its participants, however, Crazy Week would simply be a diving holiday with an unusually memorable name.
What makes it special is the community.
People know one another and genuinely look forward to meeting again. They dive together, laugh together and occasionally debate who has, once again, turned up with far too little weight. Plans are made over breakfast, adjusted at the dive site and transformed into stories over dinner — stories that become neither shorter nor more factual as the years go by.
An underwater postcard is therefore perfect for this crowd.
It is personal, imaginative and just a little bit bonkers. In other words, exactly right.
A very promising sign for Crazy Week 2026
Anyone prepared to post a card from ten metres down before the trip has even begun is unlikely to become dull once the actual week gets under way.
This is more than a lovely greeting. It is a convincing preview of what awaits us at Crazy Week 2026.
The excitement is already there.
The sense of humour is working perfectly.
The group is motivated.
And the first unusual ideas are already being put into action, months before anyone opens their first cylinder in Dahab.
The bar for Crazy Week 2026 has therefore been set surprisingly high. The sensible response might be to calm things down from here. As this is Crazy Week, we do not seriously expect that to happen.
We are looking forward to familiar faces, shared dives and that unmistakable atmosphere created when an established group returns to Dahab. There will be new experiences, new stories and, almost certainly, a few situations in which nobody can later explain who first thought the idea was sensible.
The finest memories from a diving holiday rarely come from a timetable planned down to the minute. They emerge between dives, through spontaneous ideas, shared laughter and moments that nobody could have organised in advance.
A postcard posted from an underwater letterbox definitely belongs in that category.
From ten metres down to Dahab
For all of us at Lagona Divers, this card is a wonderful sign of connection. It reminds us that Crazy Week does not begin when everyone arrives in Dahab. It starts months earlier, as the group makes plans, swaps messages and apparently develops ideas that more sensible people would reject at the first meeting.
Fortunately, there was no risk of that here.
The card will, of course, be given pride of place. We do not receive post every day that has already completed a dive of its own. And thanks to the video, nobody will ever be able to accuse us of embellishing the story.
Our thanks go to the entire group and everyone involved in this exceptional surprise. You did not merely make us laugh — you raised our excitement for Crazy Week 2026 another considerable notch.
If this was only the opening act, we are not entirely sure that we want to know what you have planned for Dahab.
Then again, perhaps that is exactly why we do want to know.
