Lagona Divers looks to the future

27 years, from 1994 to 2021, is a long time for an entrepreneur working in a sport as young as recreational diving. On the other hand, 27 years is nothing for a well-run company.

How can you reconcile the two? I have been asking myself this question a lot lately, loosely based on the saying: “Happiness must be found along the road, not at the end of it.” And this year, luck has virtually placed itself in my path.

A friendly meeting in May 2021 with Kerstin and Andy – as always when I’m in Dahab – this time quickly developed into a “collegial” conversation. And in the end we agreed to combine our strengths and competences and to “take the same road” in future rather than parallel paths. Everything else happened in quick succession and today Kerstin and Andy are shareholders in Lagona Divers. And thus an important part of the future of our company.

Some of you may know Kerstin and Andy from their years working in recreational diving at Lagona Divers. For everyone else, I would like to introduce my new partners here.

Kerstin comes from Austria and discovered her love for the sea at a very early age. She was inspired by watching Jacque Cousteau films endlessly, which led to a Master’s degree in marine biology in the end. The next logical step was to start diving, which changed her entire life. Trying to escape the cold lakes of Austria, she travelled the world for a while, finally arriving in the warm waters of Egypt in 2012. After two years in recreational diving with Lagona Divers, she discovered her love for technical diving. Consistent – and eloquent – as she is, she relentlessly pursued the path to becoming a technical diver. Today, she is an Instructor Trainer for the IANTD and TDI organisations, among others, and can also look back on seven successful years with her own dive centre for technical diving. Her greatest passion is closed circuit rebreather diving. As an instructor on the X-CCR and Hollis PrismII, she can train interested rebreather divers up to hypoxic CCR diver. In addition, she is the only registered service technician in Egypt for the X-CCR.

Andy‘s enthusiasm for diving started in 2008 in the Swiss lakes. After four years of diving in the beautiful yet very dark and cold lakes, he decided it was time for a change and moved to Dahab in 2012 to work on the sunny side of life. There he not only found his fulfilment in recreational diving, but also a partner in Kerstin for a joint journey into technical diving. During the time they ran their own dive centre together in Dahab, he continued his education to become an Instructor Trainer for IANTD and Advanced Trimix Instructor with TDI, among others. He is known and loved for his empathetic approach to all his guests’ needs, whether it’s their first dives on a double tank or a guided technical dive to 130m.

Together with Kerstin, he is now in charge of the sport diving area of Lagona Divers – Divecenters with its main location at Lagona Divers – Dahab South in Happy Life Village. Both are also responsible for the new area of “Technical Diving”, which we have also established at Lagona Divers – Dahab South. The high standards of professionalism that technical diving entails and which are in Kerstin’s and Andy’s blood, coincide with the Lagona Divers philosophy that safety, fun and enjoyment come before commercial interests.

For the “connoisseurs of the scene” and those interested, here is the list of the highest levels of training that Kerstin and Andy have to offer:

  • TDI Advanced Trimix Instructor Trainer
  • IANDT Normoxic Trimix Instructor Trainer
  • CCR Hypoxic Trimix Instructor for X-CCR and Hollis PrismII
  • IANTD & TDI Technical Sidemount Instructor Trainer
  • Official Service Technician for X-CCR in Egypt

  • IANTD Normoxic Trimix Instructor Trainer
  • IANTD & TDI Technical Sidemount Instructor Trainer
  • IANTD Expedition Trimix Instructor
  • TDI Advanced Trimix Instructor

…and that’s just the technical part.

I think it’s a collection of skills and knowledge that not every dive centre can offer.
